Mar 13 Interactive: The best way to report a pothole in Rochester

(THE MED CITY BEAT) - An online communication network is making it easier to report potholes on local roads.

SeeClickFix allows users to report non-emergency issues, like potholes or graffiti markings, through an online form. It's then up to local officials to follow the posts and respond to the inquiries when necessary.

Potholes are created when moisture seeps into the pavement, freezes, expands and then thaws. The result is weak pavement that looses even more when exposed to heavy traffic.

It's common for potholes to form during the spring when warm temperatures melt any ice left over from the winter. Highly-traffic roads, bridges and ramps are the most prone to potholes.

Drivers in the U.S. spend about $6.4 billion a year on pothole damage, according to 2014 report by AAA. Repair costs can range from $50 for a simple wheel alignment to $500 or more for replacing a top-of-the-line alloy wheel.
