City of Rochester rolls out new, mobile-friendly website

(THE MED CITY BEAT) -  In an effort to keep up with its tech-savvy residents, the City of Rochester rolled out a brand new website on Wednesday.

City staff spent the past six months working with a third-party host to develop the website, said IT manager Teryl Apel.

The slick, intuitive design aims to make it easier for residents to do everything from find the next city council meeting to view animals currently up for adoption.

"A lot of the content was refreshed," said Apel, noting that the previous website was built about a decade ago. "Each department did a good job of making things current again."

The new site has a responsive design which makes it easier for users to access webpages on a mobile device. Apel said the city also plans to update the website with fresh content on a more consistent basis.

Editor's note: The only downside to the new website is that the pages don't sync up with the top results in search engines. For instance, if you Google "Rochester City Council members," the results link to pages on the old website which no longer exist. However, this is something that should be worked out in the coming weeks.
