May 18 Students pick up 26,000 cigarette butts in downtown Rochester

(THE MED CITY BEAT) - Students from John Adams Middle School picked up more than 26,000 cigarette butts in Rochester this past weekend.

The "Butt Kickers" spent about six hours on Friday picking up a record total of 26,528 cigarettes along a 1.5 mile route in the city's downtown. The previous record of 24,811 was set in 2012, the first year of the campaign.

For their time, the Rochester Downtown Alliance, Mayor Ardell Brede and the Rochester Parks and Recreation Department donated a total of $1,500 to the school's science lab.
