Mayo Clinic CEO: SCOTUS decision a win for health care patients

Mayo Clinic CEO: SCOTUS decision a win for health care patients

Mayo Clinic CEO John Noseworthy released the following statement reacting to the Supreme Court ruling Thursday upholding nationwide tax subsidies to help poor and middle-class people purchase health insurance:

The federal premium subsidies will continue to reduce the cost of insurance for the millions of Americans who receive them and continue to improve access to health care. It is important that we not step back from our commitment to health insurance coverage for all Americans.

The court's 6-3 decision will allow individuals in states that do not have their own state-run exchanges set up to qualify for federal subsidies.

Minnesota had set up its own exchange, meaning the ruling had no affect on patients in Rochester. However, Mayo Clinic has campuses in Florida and Arizona, which did not set up their own exchanges.
