Local tech company modernizing the way football teams practice
It may come as a surprise that one of the most promising innovations to come out of Rochester in recent years has nothing to do with health care.
The company's called GoRout, and it produces wearable devices that allow football coaches to communicate with players in real-time. While the technology has not yet been approved for use in actual games, nearly 30 high school and college teams — including several in our area — have started using the gear during practice this season.

One one of those schools is Century High School in Rochester. On Monday, U.S. Rep. Tim Walz, a former football coach at Mankato West, joined GoRout CEO and founder Mike Rohil at a Panthers practice to see the technology in action.
“Watching this technology created in Rochester and being used in our local communities is inspiring,” said Walz. “Entrepreneurs who are working to create middle class jobs in the tech industry will help Rochester grow in the years to come and we need to ensure that the work we do in Washington encourages that kind of innovation.”
GoRout started out a year ago in the Mayo Clinic Business Accelerator. The company was recently approved for a $74,950 loan from Rochester Area Economic Development, Inc.
