KTTC slipped up: Christopher Holloway never had any part in Cafe Steam
Update: KTTC has updated its online story and will issue a correction on-air Friday night. Below is the text from our original report.
A report Thursday by KTTC erroneously referred to Christopher Holloway as "the previous owner of Cafe Steam" in downtown Rochester.
Holloway, 46, was in court facing felony charges of third and fourth-degree sexual conduct from an incident in 2014. He is accused of having sexual conduct with a 14-year-old boy he met through an online dating site.
Holloway, who now lives in Missouri, according to a P-B report, has pleaded not guilty to both charges. His trial is scheduled to begin on Monday.
KTTC was correct that Holloway did own a coffee shop — he ran Press Coffee and Tea Lounge from 2013 up until his arrest in December 2014. Press was located in the same Broadway retail space now occupied by Cafe Steam
However, location aside, the two businesses are not related. Cafe Steam is an independent business with no connection to Press or Holloway. That makes the statement used in the text version of the story, "former owner of Press Coffee and Tea Lounge, now known as Cafe Steam," inaccurate and misleading.
Furthermore, the line used in the live video report, "previous owner of Cafe Steam," is not only inaccurate but damaging to the business's reputation.
