Mayo Clinic details plans for an expansion of its St. Marys Campus

Mayo Clinic on Tuesday announced plans for an expansion of its St. Marys Campus, marking its first major investment since the Destination Medical Center initiative entered its implementation phase last April.

The plans call for the construction of four additional floors to the seven-story Mary Brigh Building. The expansion will add 110,000 square feet to the building. Construction will begin this month and wrap up by early 2017.

The clinic will also build two new hybrid operating rooms on the campus. The rooms will be "built and fitted with specialized equipment to enable more minimally invasive heart and vascular procedures to be performed."

Over on its Methodist Campus, 14 new operating rooms will be added to the Jacobson Building. The facilities will be used to treat cancer patients and "accommodate robotic and innovative procedures."

Renovations will also be made to the seventh floor of the Eisenberg Building.

The projects are part of a $92.7 million investment into facilities and equipment across its health care system. The clinic also announced plans to lease a new aircraft and make upgrades to its campuses in Jacksonville and Eau Claire, Wis.

Mayo has pledged $3.5 billion to DMC over a span of 20 years. Its last major investment in its St. Marys Campus came in 2013.
