Minnesota Lynx to play pre-season game on Mother Day's in Rochester
The Minnesota Lynx will play the Washington Mystics for a Mother's Day special in Rochester, according to the team's Ticketmaster page.
The preseason game is scheduled for May 8 at the Mayo Civic Center's Taylor Arena. Tickets are not yet available.
The Lynx and Mayo Clinic, which have an existing partnership, said Friday morning that a "major announcement" would be made. No other information was given, except that the announcement would be made at a joint news conference in Rochester on Monday at 11:30 a.m.
That fueled speculation that the Lynx could be playing their 2017 season in Rochester while its current home, the Target Center, undergoes renovations.
However, hours after the press release was sent out, Post-Bulletin reporter Brett Boese spoiled the surprise on Twitter.
The Lynx have won three of the last five WNBA titles. The team's 2016 regular season will begin at home on May 14.
