Red Kettle campaign hits $1 million mark for fourth straight year

For the fourth consecutive year, the Rochester Salvation Army reached the $1 million mark for its Red Kettle/Christmas Campaign.

According to a news release, the local chapter received $1,077,579 in donations over the Christmas season. That number is down slightly from the $1.2 million raised in 2014, but still higher than the organization's original goal for 2015.

The kettle-only portion of the campaign was $404,352; the remainder of the gifts were made online, by mail or in person.

 
 

During the 2015 bell ringing campaign, nearly 6,300 hours were donated by individuals and local organizations, says the release. An additional 600 to 700 volunteer hours were used for kettle distribution, counting and administration behind the scenes.

The Red Kettle/Christmas Campaign is the largest single fundraising activity for the Rochester Salvation Army. The organizations uses funds to support over 30 programs and services, from hot meals to medical and dental care.

Lisa Clarke, executive director of the DMC Economic Development Agency, served as the honorary chair for the 2015 campaign.
