Quarry Hill welcomes back 'Stan the T.rex' — plus three of his friends
Quarry Hill Nature Center is offering visitors the chance to go face to face with one of the best known dinosaurs in North America.
"Stan the T.rex" returned to Rochester on Monday for the first time in a decade. The 40-foot-long carnivorous theropod, which ruled the late Cretaceous period more than 65 million years ago, drew 18,000 visitors to Quarry Hill during his first appearance back in 2006.
"Stan’s skeleton, in the fierce New Mexico pose, will allow visitors an up close, face to face look at the impressive teeth of this giant tyrant lizard," the center wrote in a news release.
Workers spent the morning carefully unpacking and reconstructing Stan's skeleton.
In addition to the legendary Tyrannosaurus, visitors will get to check out fossils from a few other dinosaurs, including a 27-foot Allosaurus. Skulls from two other dinosaurs will also be on display.
The exhibit will feature hands-on and engaging interpretive elements for visitors of all ages, according to the center. Admission to the exhibit, which runs from March 5 to April 10, is $4 for adults and $3 for children.
Several special events will be held for various age groups:
