Rochester Kmart to close in March

Rochester Kmart to close in March

The Rochester Kmart will close in March 2019.

Sears Holdings Corp, which owns both Sears and Kmart, told workers this week that it plans to shut down 80 stores, including the one in Rochester.

This is the latest round of store closures from Sears Holding Corp, which filed for bankruptcy in October. The only other Minnesota location affected by Friday’s announcement is the Sears at the Mall of America.

The company plans to begin liquidation within the next couple of weeks, according to a report from CNBC. Altogether, Sears has announced plans to shut down more than 260 of its 700 stores around the country.

It is unclear what’s next for the Rochester property, located at 201 9th Street Southeast, just south of downtown. The site is valued at $6.3 million, according a recent property value assessment from Olmsted County.
