Mayor to assemble task force on homelessness
Rochester Mayor Kim Norton said Monday that she plans to bring together a group of local thought leaders to discuss homelessness in the city.
“We had an opportunity to learn some things over the last week or so with the weather,” said Norton. “We learned that we need to care for the people in our community when it gets bitter cold.”
Norton also said she has been fielding calls from constituents concerned with the city’s homeless population staying in skyways. The mayor wants to learn more about the city’s capacity for housing the homeless.
Already, Norton has a list of about 15-20 people interested in attending the meeting. She said members of the public who know an individual who should be involved can contact her office.
A preliminary date of February 13 has been set for the group to convene.
