Suicide prevention walk scheduled for Saturday

Suicide prevention walk scheduled for Saturday

The local chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will host its annual Out of the Darkness Walk this Saturday.

The walk begins at 9 a.m. at Bear Creek Park in Rochester.

Last year, more than 260 walkers helped raise $17,000 for AFSP’s education and support programs. The organization has a goal of reducing the annual suicide rate 20 percent in the U.S. by the year 2025.

The Rochester walk — which you can register for here — is one of the more than 550 Out of the Darkness events being held nationwide this year.

If you are in crisis, help is available. Call the toll-free National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255), available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The service is available to anyone. All calls are confidential.
