Public tennis courts and golf courses to re-open this week

Rochester public golf courses and tennis courts are set to re-open this week.

The city’s parks department says Northern Hills Golf Course will open Wednesday, while Hadley Creek Golf Course will open Friday. The city’s two other courses at Soldiers Field and Eastwood have been open since April 25.

Meanwhile, all outdoor tennis courts will open their gates on Friday.

With both sports, officials are asking the public to adhere to social distancing guidelines. For golfers, that means reserving tee times in advance and limiting groups to four players. For tennis players, the rules mean singles play only, unless doubles partners share the same household.

Playgrounds and basketball courts remain closed due to Covid-19.

Additionally, as a result of budget constraints brought on by the pandemic, the parks department has discontinued exterior lighting at sports complexes, fields, courts and other public parks spaces.

Once restrictions are lifted on events and group activities, park officials say they will work with groups to coordinate the use of public courts and fields in a way that maximizes daylight hours.
