Rochester Public Library suspends reopening plans as Covid cases tick upward
The Rochester Public Library is pausing the next phase of its reopening plans as result of the rising number of Covid-19 cases in Olmsted County, the organization announced Tuesday.
The library had planned to begin offering “Library Express,” a by-appointment option for browsing and borrowing materials and other limited activities. Since the announcement of that plan, however, the City of Rochester’s Covid-19 Risk Dial has risen from ‘moderate’ to ‘high.’
“We continue to watch the dial and listen to public health officials about COVID-19 activity locally,” said library director Audrey Betcher. She added, “Once our cases start to decline, and we’re back in the moderate to minimal risk levels, we will be ready to offer Library Express.”
In the meantime, library patrons can continue to pick up books and other materials through the curbside pickup option. Earlier this month, the library moved the pickup site into the Civic Center Ramp, ensuring the continued service during the winter months.
