Federal funds flow in for restoration of Plummer Water Tower
Rochester Parks & Rec has been awarded a federal grant to support the restoration of the historic Plummer Water Tower.
The $384,000 grant — nearly half of the total project cost — is being funded by the Save America's Treasures program, through the Historic Preservation Fund, and administered by the National Park Service.
Remaining costs are expected to come out of the local tax levy and parks referendum fund. The parks departments says it is also seeking additional grant dollars to further support the preservation work.
The water tower is among the original pieces of what once was a 65-acre estate built by the legendary Dr. Henry Plummer and his wife Daisy. Today what is remaining of the 11-acre property is managed by Parks & Rec.
