Mayo Clinic relaxes visitor policy in Rochester

Citing “consistently low” Covid-19 rates in the area, Mayo Clinic announced this week it will begin allowing up to two visitors per patient at its Rochester sites.

Under the updated policy, visitors to the inpatient setting will be able to come and go during visiting hours, which are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Visitors are still required to comply with mask and social distancing guidelines.

Mayo has adjusted its visitor policy throughout the pandemic — at times prohibiting visitors to its hospital units and emergency department (with some exceptions) in response to surging levels of community transmission.

Below are some key points of the updated visitor policy:

  • Two visitors per patient.

  • Minimum age of a visitor will be 5 years of age.

  • Visitors between the age of 5-17 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

  • Children under 5 will not be permitted to enter unless they are receiving care. Exception requests for children under 5 will be reviewed by the care team and approved by hospital leadership.

  • Visitors for the NICU must be 18 years or older, and there can be 2 consistent visitors. Exceptions for the minimum age in the NICU will be reviewed and approved by the care team.

  • Visitors may rotate.

Additional information on the visitor policy can be found here.

Olmsted County has recorded seven consecutive weeks of declining Covid-19 case numbers. Last week, the county had 142 confirmed cases — good for the lowest total since mid-September.
