New restaurant to open this summer in former Shopko North space
Featuring innovative takes on classic recipes and a spacious outdoor area, the Purple Goat Kitchen, Bar and Patio will open its doors in early August.
Located in the old Shopko North building, 3708 N Broadway, the restaurant will have space for 166 indoor seats, 24 bar seats, and 60-plus on the patio.
Owners David and Mark Currie are also behind other popular Rochester restaurants, including Hefe Rojo, Newt’s, and The Redwood Room.
“Our main focus was to have a fun approachable menu that everyone can enjoy but also be impressed by as well,” says GM Charles Morris.
The Purple Goat will serve familiar items like sandwiches and rotisserie chicken — but with a creative twist — such as their mushroom and Swiss burger garnished with a house-made four-mushroom sauce.
The bar will feature cocktails including their Watermelon Margarita, Sangria, and a variety of beer.
The restaurant aims to create a casual, warm and inviting interior, says Morris, with booth-style seating, popcorn, and a 16-foot long fireplace. There is also a private room for parties or presentations available for reservation.
However, Morris envisions the Purple Goat as being more than a dining experience, with guests able to gather in a more self-service style outside.
“There’s more offerings than just come in, sit down, and eat,” says Morris. “If there’s a family riding their bikes around, they can relax for a bit and enjoy the patio.”
The patio’s outdoor canopy can be used rain or shine and will have TVs, a sound system, heating, and fans. While a children’s play area will entertain the little ones, adults will not be left out of the fun. Interactive games including giant Jenga, giant Connect Four, and beanbags will be available to enjoy.
“We’re just excited to be able to serve the community, meet new guests, and have people enjoy our space — there’s nothing more rewarding.”
