Bolder Options to host a night of family fun at Mayo Field this weekend

Bolder Options will be hosting a packed evening of sports, music, food, and drinks this Saturday in Rochester.

The ninth annual Sportacular Tailgate Challenge will take over Mayo Field (the Honkers baseball stadium), 403 East Center Street, from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will serve as a fundraiser for Bolder Options, a nonprofit providing mentorship for middle-school-aged youth.

Among the main highlights of the event will be the “Sports Skillz” games, in which participants declare their allegiance to one of Rochester’s four area high schools and then test their skills in sports such as baseball, football, hockey, basketball, and golf. The winning team will earn the privilege of hoisting the Marcus Sherels Ear of Corn Trophy.

Additionally, the Tailgate Challenge will feature appearances from Minnesota sports celebrities who will spend time with the kids and sign autographs. This year’s guests will include former Minnesota Twins pitcher Eddie Guardado, former Vikings players Bryant McKinnie, Robert Griffith, and Sherels, and the K9 Ninja Roo Yori. John Marshall graduate and former NFL first-round pick Darrell Thomspon, now the president of Bolder Options, will also be on hand for the event.
