Celebrate National Ice Cream Day at one of three Rochester Cold Stone Creamery locations

Celebrate National Ice Cream Day at one of three Rochester Cold Stone Creamery locations

Every year, the third Sunday of July marks one of the sweetest days of the year. National Ice Cream Day is a celebration of the tastiest of summer treats, and Rochester’s three Cold Stone Creamery locations are ready to help you celebrate the right way.

Why choose Cold Stone? Simply put, the difference is in how fresh the ice cream is. Cold Stone’s product doesn’t come to them ready to go on a truck; rather, it’s made on-site with fresh milk, cream and flavorings every day.

“Ice cream is so much better when it’s fresh,” says Jasmine, an employee at Cold Stone’s Marketplace Drive Northwest location. “That’s why I think this ice cream is the best in town.”

Fans of Cold Stone swear it’s the best-tasting, made-to-order ice cream you will ever have — and after choosing your favorite flavor out of around 15 available options, the real customization begins.

Cold Stone offers dozens of mix-ins and toppings, meant to take your creation to the next level. Follow the tried and true Signature Creations, or blaze your own trail and create something entirely unique. Want a fruity combination? Mix gummy bears into a sorbet. Want to double down? Put Oreos into cookies n’ cream. Add chocolate candy, fudge, almonds, pecans, cherries, you name it — Cold Stone can mix it in.

After the employees combine the ice cream and mix-ins, all that’s left is to enjoy your personalized piece of ice cream nirvana. Cold Stone calls it the ‘10-Minute Vacation,’ a little getaway from the hustle and bustle of the world that their treats create. This Sunday, July 19 — National Ice Cream Day — is the perfect excuse to take your own little vacation.

And when you do, know you’re supporting a locally-owned franchise. The Topel family moved to Rochester from Venezuela, and have found a passion for serving Cold Stone’s ice cream to the community.

“This job has really been great,” says Yoel Topel, co-owner of the family franchising group in charge of Rochester’s Cold Stones. “We have fallen in love with Rochester, and we hope people have enjoyed the ice cream we make them. It seems like they have!”

Staff recommendations

With so many choices available at Cold Stone, finding the perfect National Ice Cream Day order might seem tough. We thought it would be best to seek guidance from the experts, and find out what Cold Stone employees reach for first when making their own order.

Yoel, Rochester franchise owner: Coffee Lovers Only (Coffee ice cream base w/ almonds, Heath, caramel mixed in)

“It’s sweet, it’s a little savory, and it’s so balanced.

Bonus: Dulce de Leche ice cream, with ‘literally anything!’ mixed in

Jasmine, employee: Cake Batter base w/ Oreo & Reese’s mixed in

Bonus: Mint base w/ Reese’s mixed in. “I had a weird craving one day, and decided to go with it… but I’m so glad I did. I wouldn’t think it would be good, but it’s SO good.”

Danya, employee: Oreo Overload Specialty (Sweet Cream base, double Oreo & fudge mixed in) — sub chocolate chips for brownies

“The brownie is the best part. It all stays soft, and I think the flavor’s better. It all works together so well.”

Bonus: Mud Pie Mojo specialty (Coffee base w/ peanut butter, Oreo, almonds and fudge mixed in)

Rochester’s two Cold Stone Creameries are conveniently located at:
