Riverside Concerts to debut new online music series 'Live from Med City'
Riverside Concerts, the City of Rochester's music department, presents "Live from Med City", an online video digest of all things arts and entertainment in Rochester.
The "Live from Med City" concept was conceived with the objective to spotlight the many “live arts experiences” Rochester has to offer, featuring artists from around the block and from all over the world, and filmed in some of our finest and most unique venues. The series will focus first on Riverside Concerts’ own presentations, but with an eye toward broadening the coverage to include presentations from other local organizations in the future.
The first leg of this virtual concert series includes an eclectic mix of genres and artists, from near and far, including Rochester's own Good Morning Bedlam (New Folk), Under the Pavilion (Indie Pop-Punk), and Steven J. Schmidt (Folk Singer-Songwriter); the Winona, MN based Karate Chop, Silence (Indie Funk-Rock); the Minneapolis based Lady Midnight (Hip-Hop/R&B); and Chicago's Dos Santos (LatinX).
Riverside Concerts’ General Manager Steven Schmidt said:
“Usually this time of year we’d be busy selling tickets to our indoor concert series at the Mayo Civic Center, the ‘Riverside Concerts Presents’ series, but the global pandemic has made that a risky venture this season, and the safety of our constituents, artists, and staff must take top priority. In the summer of 2020, we had to cancel our ‘Down by the Riverside’ and ‘forWARD’ concert series’ for the same reason, but the warm weather allowed us to provide alternative programming that was presented in a COVID-19 safe format; the drive-in style ‘Car Park Concerts’ at 125 Live, and the audience-less indoor shows for the 'Rochester Community Celebration' at the Mayo Civic Center. We live-streamed and/or recorded each of those shows, and while we had nice viewership for the live streams, we thought these amazing shows in these incredible venues really deserved more opportunities to be seen. It is these recordings, from this very unusual but rewarding summer of events, that make up this debut season of ‘Live from Med City’.”
The inaugural season of "Live from Med City" premieres Thursday, November 5 at 6 p.m. on Riverside Concerts’ Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram accounts, and on the local Government Access Cable Channels (Spectrum Channel 180, MetroNet Channel 80). All Facebook Live broadcasts will be cross posted to partner accounts including the City of Rochester, Minnesota’s Rochester, The Rochester Posse, Med City Beat, along with that episode’s venue and featured artist.
New episodes premiere every Thursday night at 6 p.m.
