Altra Federal Credit Union accepting nominations for $90K in community awards
Know a nonprofit worth supporting? Altra Federal Credit Union is now taking member nominations for $90,000 in community awards.
The new member-driven initiative — known a Best Life Community Awards — comes as Altra celebrates its 90th anniversary.
In making nominations, members should select from nonprofits they have supported over the past 12 months with their time, talent, or treasure.
The nonprofit must be focused on one of six categories: Education (Pre-K through college), Cultural Enrichment, Health, Preserving or Restoring the Environment, Human Services and Strengthening Local Communities.

“Giving back to the community is the founding principle of credit unions, which is people helping people,” said Shawn Hauser, Community Relations Manger for Altra. “And we live that every day — whether it’s helping members or nonprofits in the communities we serve.”
Nominations are being accepted through Monday, September 13.
Popular vote through social media will determine the winner for the $10,000 Community Choice Award. Additional award amounts range from $2,500 - $5,000 and will be determined by Altra employee voting. Five Altra employees will be rewarded based upon volunteerism with a $1,000 donation on their behalf to an organization of their choice.
“We are excited to launch this new initiative that involves our members, employees and communities,” said Steve Koenen, President and CEO of Altra. “Not only will we be recognizing our members’ commitment to their community, but also our employees’.”
Founded in 1931, Altra now has more than 122,000 members worldwide. Its two Rochester branches are located on 9th Street NW and Second Street SW.
