Indie pop favorite POLIÇA to headline week four of Down by the Riverside

Indie pop favorite POLIÇA to headline week four of Down by the Riverside

One of the most accomplished musical groups to come out of the Twin Cities in the past decade will make their way down to Rochester this weekend.

The indie pop band POLIÇA is set to take the stage this Sunday, August 1 for week four of the Think Bank Down by the Riverside concert series. The free show begins at 7 p.m. at Mayo Park with local opener Amateur.

POLIÇA was formed in Minneapolis circa 2011 and has received acclaim for its blend of indie, synth pop and alternative rock. The group has released five studio albums and collaborated with the likes of Justin Vernon of Bon Iver — who once called POLIÇA “the best band I’ve ever heard.”

The group has also appeared at a number of popular music festivals, including South by Southwest and The Current’s Rock the Garden.

Their latest album, When We Stay Alive, was released in January 2020, nearly two years after lead singer Channy Leaneagh suffered critical injuries falling off her roof. In reviewing the album, The Current described it as a “complex and vulnerable record that examines the trauma of the accident and Leaneagh's role as a mother.” The album, as The Current notes, also showcases the band’s transition to a fully electronic percussion setup.

The performance from POLIÇA is one of three outdoor shows remaining in the Down by the Riverside series. The remaining two headliners are Ranky Tanky on August 8 and 38 Special on August 15. Rochester Civic Music is also hosting several more forWARD Neighborhood Park Concerts.
