Art in the Schools series introduces students to new sounds and new cultures

This week on the Rochester Rundown, Isaac Jahns heads to Riverside Central Elementary School to experience traditional Tuvan throat singing; and more importantly, explore the impact music can have in connecting students with other cultures. Plus, we have an update on what local officials are doing to prepare for the possibility of the coronavirus; we’ll take you to Thursday’s press conference where we heard from Mayor Kim Norton and Rochester Public Schools Superintendent Michael Muñoz.

This weekend in Rochester

Uptown X (Rochester Thaw) — General B and the Wiz @ Thesis

The Rochester Thaw is just about two weeks away, but before the Castle gets packed with local and regional talent, the festival’s Uptown X concert series will have one more night to shine at Thesis Beer Project. Last year’s Thaw headliners General B and the Wiz are headlining, with support from Minneapolis indie-soul project Ali and the Scoundrels. It’s another 21+ show, starting Friday night at 8.

Brew-Beard-Bulls#hit @ Little Thistle

Little Thistle is bringing back one of its wackier events from 2019 for a second go-round, and it’s all for a good cause: 2020’s Brew-Beard-Bulls#it contest takes over the brewery Saturday afternoon. Prizes will be handed out to the best and funkiest beards as decided by a panel of judges. If you just shaved and wanted to participate, you’ll probably run out of time, but you’ve got until Saturday at 2 to grow it out.

Acoustic Roundup

  • Forager Brewery: Trapper Schoepp Friday, Ethan Keller Saturday

  • Café Steam: Theocles (Saturday)

  • Taco JED: Tim Dallman Friday, Justin Jacobson Saturday
