Minnesota adds 6,600 jobs in November; unemployment rate drops to 3.7%
(THE MED CITY BEAT) - Minnesota employers added 6,600 jobs in November, pushing the state's seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate down to 3.7 percent, the lowest level since May 2001.
The monthly report was released Thursday morning by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.
“Minnesota has seen a remarkable burst of hiring since July, adding more than 35,000 jobs during that period,” DEED Commissioner Katie Clark Sieben said in a news release. “The change in the unemployment rate from 4.5 percent in July to 3.7 percent in November is particularly notable given the labor force participation rate held steady during that period, on top of adding jobs to the economy.”
The state has gained 51,065 jobs in the past year. Total jobs in the Rochester MSA are up 0.8 percent over the past 12 months, compared to a state average of 1.8 percent.
The biggest gains in 2014 were in business services, followed by manufacturing, education and health services.
