RPU urging all customers to check their water temperature
(THE MED CITY BEAT) - Rochester Public Utilities is asking all its customers to monitor their water temperature after receiving several reports of frozen water service lines.
RPU said in a news release on Thursday that all customers should take the temperature of their water and then continue monitoring it for the next two months.
If the water temperature ever falls below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, you should immediately start running a continuous pencil-width stream of water from a faucet.
A frozen water service repair can cost between $800-$1,000, while the cost to run a constant pencil-width stream of water is only $40-$60 per month including sewer fees, according to RPU.
RPU has more than 37,000 water customers in Rochester. Contact the utility provider if you need a thermometer or plan on letting your water run.
