A growing event: Tuesday farmers market returns to Rochester
The Tuesday farmers market kicks off this week in Rochester.
The event, hosted by the Rochester Downtown Farmers Market, will be held at Ashley Furniture on Highway 52 every Tuesday through September.
With about 12-18 independent family farms, the Tuesday market is considerably smaller than the main downtown event on Saturdays.
"In past years, this market has been very popular with the NW neighborhood, those who are committed to a healthy diet, people with limited mobility (due to its size and easy access) and with those who commute to Rochester for work and are not in town on Saturdays," said market manager David Kotsonas.
Here's a look at what will be offered at this Tuesday's market:
Produce: rhubarb, asparagus, kohlrabi, zucchini, pak choi, green onions, lettuce, salad mix, salad greens, kale, spinach, arugula, mustard greens, salad turnips, herbs, Swiss chard, radishes, beets, carrots, shallots, parsnips and wheat grass
Plants: annuals, perennials, bedding plants, veggie starts, herbs and flowering plants
Meats: beef, pork, brats, sausage and bacon
Eggs: Free range chicken eggs, duck eggs, goose eggs and soy-free eggs
Baked Goods: sweet breads, cakes, pies, muffins, turnovers, cinnamon and caramel rolls
Canned Goods: pickles, pickled veggies, soups, baked beans, sauces, salsas and fruit jams
