Those aren't bird houses: Mini libraries popping up across Rochester

Those aren't bird houses: Mini libraries popping up across Rochester

Little libraries are beginning to pop up across Rochester.

A total of 40 mini libraries will be installed by this weekend, according to organizers. The host families were selected out of 130 applicants.

The libraries were constructed by Nigon Woodworks and painted by Pompeii Painting. Members of Leadership Greater Rochester's class of 2015 are handling the installation of the libraries.

The Rochester Mini Library Program raised $50,000 — more than three times the fundraising goal — to support the effort. All leftover proceeds will be given to the Rochester Public Library so it can continue expanding the program.

A ribbon cutting for the only downtown mini library, which will be located near the information booth at Peace Plaza, will be held on Aug. 4.
