What's inside Rochester's 63-year-old time capsule? Everything you'd expect

What's inside Rochester's 63-year-old time capsule? Everything you'd expect

Old newspaper clippings, books and photos are among the items that have been pulled from a time capsule in Rochester.

Surrounded by dozens of onlookers, Mayor Ardell Brede opened the container at a ceremony on Wednesday at Peace Plaza. The objects, all of which dated back to the 1950s and earlier, were found carefully-wrapped and well-persevered.

The time capsule was discovered in April under a statue of the Mayo Brothers in front of the Mayo Civic Center. The statue was being moved into storage to make room for the civic center's ongoing renovation and expansion project

According to newspaper archives, the capsule was placed under the statue in 1952, the year the sculpture was first installed in the Mayo Park amphitheater. It was moved with the statue to the front of the civic center in 1986.

Mayo Brede indicated on Wednesday that he'd like to install a new capsule that would be opened decades from now. Have any ideas on what should go in the container? Let him know.
