Motorcyclists ticketed in Rochester for going 135 miles per hour
Two local motorcyclists were recently clocked going 135 miles per hour — the highest speeds recorded during a statewide crackdown on speeding.
The two riders were pulled over the afternoon of July 18 on East Circle Drive NE, south of Viola Road in Rochester. According to the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office, a deputy got them on radar from about 600 feet away.

Both will have to appear in court because the speeds exceeded 31 miles over the speed limit, which was posted at 55 miles per hour (more on this story here).
Local law enforcement ticked 381 motorists in Olmsted County during last month's 17-day crackdown on speeding. Statewide, 16,410 drivers were issued citations, about 500 fewer compared to last year.

The campaign is part of the Toward Zero Deaths traffic safety initiative, which aims to create a safe driving culture in Minnesota. According to authorities, some of the dangers of speeding include:
- Greater potential for loss of vehicle control
- Increased stopping distance
- Less time available for driver response for crash avoidance
- Increased crash severity leading to more numerous and sever injuries
