Chill out: Rochester's one of the 'least-stressed' cities in America
Rochester ranks No. 11 on this year's list of the "Least-Stressed Cities in America."
SmartAsset, a personal finance technology company, developed the rankings by examining data from more than 500 cities across the U.S.
Some of the metrics used were stress factors, like the unemployment rate and average workweek; others were stress relievers, such as how much of the population is getting adequate exercise.
The Midwest dominated the list, finishing with eight cities in the top 10. Iowa City, Madison and Duluth finished with three highest scores respectively.
Another common factor is the presence of a college. Each of the 10 least-stressed cities in the study is home to a large public university.
Here's a look at some of Rochester's key statistics, according to the site:
- Average workweek: 38.5 hours
- Average commute: 16.2 minutes
- Divorce rate: 9.7%
- Physical activity rate: 56%
- Entertainment venues per 1,000 businesses: 17.61
- Average sleep per night: 6.98 hours
SmartAsset also recently named Rochester one of the "10 Best American Cities to Work in Tech in 2015," citing the presence of both IBM and the Mayo Clinic. "As the medical field increasingly relies on computers and technologists for everything from diagnosis to new drug development, the tech workforce in Rochester will likely continue to grow," the report says.
