Owners of City Cafe spicing things up with new restaurant concept
Creative Cuisine, the company behind popular restaurants like Newt's and the Redwood Room, will introduce a new concept this spring at the site of City Cafe in downtown Rochester.
Manager Alicia Huseth told the Med City Beat on Thursday that City Cafe will shut down for a couple weeks in mid/late March so the business can be converted into a casual, Mexican-style restaurant.
She said the concept behind City Cafe, which has been serving up American cuisine in an upscale environment since 2002, has simply "run its course."
The new restaurant, to be called Hefe Rojo, or "Red Boss," will offer a new menu featuring everything from à la carte tacos to fried ice cream. Under the new concept, prices will be lower than what were offered at City Cafe.
Other modifications will include new decor and a renovated bar. According to Huseth, the company plans to retain most of its workers following the transition.
The Newt's restaurant above City Cafe will not be affected by the change.
