Time to think big: Global Entreprenuership Week begins today in Rochester

Time to think big: Global Entreprenuership Week begins today in Rochester

Start something. That's the challenge being put forth by organizers of Rochester's fourth annual Global Entrepreneurship Week.

The lineup of events — nearly 20 in all — will be held Monday through Friday at various locations in Rochester (most are downtown). The calendar includes networking events, panel discussions and small business seminars.

The series is part of a global effort aimed at celebrating innovators and entrepreneurs who help bring new ideas to life. For local organizers, it's also about inspiring the next generation of risk takers here in Rochester.

"We think entrepreneurship is crucial to what's going on in Rochester and the surrounding area," said Jamie Sundsbak, one of the organizers of GEW. "I think it always has been and it's something we're trying to bring to light."

Traditionally, Rochester is known for its medical and biotech startups. While that remains a critical part of the local entrepreneurial ecosystem, Sundsbak said he is encouraged by the number of new startups emerging in other areas.

"That's a positive sign," said Sundsbak. "Because ... we need to think about diversity in our business here in Rochester."

A full list of events can be found here. RSVP is requested.
