Burton Cummings, singer/songwriter of the Guess Who, to close out Riverside
Burton Cummings, the singer and songwriter behind enduring rock hits like "American Woman" and "These Eyes," will perform the 2017 Down by the Riverside series finale.
The former Guess Who frontman is scheduled to take the stage outdoors in Mayo Park on Sunday, Aug. 13. All summer Riverside shows are free and open to the public.
With Cummings on vocals, the Guess Who rose to international fame in the late 1960s through mid-70s with popular songs such as "Share the Land," "Laughing" and "Undun."
In 2002, Burton and other original members received the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement for the Guess Who's contribution to popular music in Canada. Additionally, Burton is also a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Also announced this week, Grammy-nominated country singer Cassadee Pope will be performing at Riverside on July 23.
Local country music fans should recognize Pope from her recent duet, "Think of You," recorded with Chris Young. She was also the season three winner of The Voice back in 2012.
Riverside had already announced two other summer performers: the Spin Doctors on July 9 and Living Colour on July 30. The remaining two headliners will be announced next week.
