Spin Doctors to headline first Down by the Riverside concert of 2017
Music is the medicine the Spin Doctors will be prescribing when they stop through Rochester on July 9 for the first installment of the 2017 Down by the Riverside concert series.
The highly-anticipated announcement was made Thursday by Riverside Concerts, the city of Rochester's civic music department, which organizes the annual summer series.
Also revealed on Thursday: The Grammy award-winning hard rock group Living Colour will headline week four of the series, on July 30. The remaining four shows in the summer lineup will be announced in pairs each of the next two Thursdays.
This summer will mark the 26th year of the popular outdoor concert series. The free shows are scheduled for Sunday nights July 9 through August 13 at Mayo Park in downtown Rochester.
For those unfamiliar, here's some background on the Spin Doctors:
Multi-Grammy nominee the Spin Doctors, with their unique blend of pop, funk and progressive rock, owned the radio and MTV airways in the early '90s with hits like "Two Princes", "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong", and "Jimmy Olsen's Blues" from their five-time platinum break through album, Pocket Full of Kryptonite.
And Living Colour:
Politically driven in their lyrics and eclectic & experimental in their sound, Living Colour made an indelible mark on the ‘80s/’90s music scene, picking-up two Grammies, three MTV Video Music Awards, opening slots on tours with Guns & Roses and The Rolling Stones, and a slew of hit singles including "Love Rears Its Ugly Head", "Type", "Glamour Boys", and "Cult of Personality".
