RST adds second daily flight to Atlanta
Rochester International Airport continues to spread its wings.
Delta Air Lines announced plans Tuesday to add a second daily flight connecting Rochester to Atlanta. The additional line of service will begin June 9 (reservations can be booked now). Delta first added a flight between the two cities in September 2014.
John Reed, executive director of RST, said Delta's decision to add the second flight to Atlanta is a result of the community's support for the current Delta flights, which also include three daily trips to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
“The addition of a second daily flight to the Delta hub at Atlanta is tremendous news for our region,” he said in a statement. “We have been emphasizing the importance of choosing to Fly Local. It takes a collective regional effort to support and recruit additional flights."
The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the world's busiest airport, serving more than 100 million passengers annually.
This new Atlanta flight allows for same day trips to more than two-dozen cities in the southeast U.S. Additionally, according to RST, the second daily departure to Atlanta also provides more efficient connections to most cities in Europe and South America.
It's the second big announcement from the airport this year. Last month, United Airlines revealed it will add daily service from Rochester to Chicago's O'Hare beginning June 8.
