It took a full year, but Uber is finally ready to add service in Rochester
Uber is ready to put the wheels in motion.
The ride-sharing company is set to begin offering service this week in Rochester. The target date for the launch is Thursday, March 2, according to a company representative.
Attorneys for Uber first contacted the city last March about drafting new regulations that would allow transportation network companies such as itself to operate in Rochester. The city council eventually passed a new ride-sharing ordinance in December following months of debate and public testimony.
San Francisco-based Uber is the most used ride-sharing service in the world. The tech giant is valued at over $60 billion and operates in more than 500 cities across the world.
It will be the second company to move into the Rochester market since the adoption of the city's new TNC ordinance. Its top competitor, Lyft, began offering rides last Thursday.
