Protest planned ahead of Trump visit
Protesters are expected to greet President Donald Trump when he arrives in town next week for a campaign event at the Mayo Civic Center.
Two local advocacy groups — including the union-backed Communities United for Rochester Empowerment — are organizing a “GreaterThanFear” rally in protest of Trumps’s appearance in Rochester.
Organizers say additional details will be made available in the coming days. Already, hundreds of people have RSVPed for the protest on Facebook.
The president is scheduled to arrive in Rochester next Thursday to rally voters ahead of the mid-term elections. Minnesota District 1 — which encompasses all of southern Minnesota, including Rochester — is considered to be one of the most closely-contested House races in the country.
Trump will be the first sitting president to visit Rochester since 2004 when then President George W. Bush came to town for a campaign event.
