Ronald McDonald House of Rochester sets grand opening for expansion project
The Ronald McDonald House of Rochester is nearing the finish line on an expansion project that will it make the largest of its kind in Minnesota.
The nonprofit says a grand opening for the project will take place the week of May 13. There will be a public open house on Friday, May 17.
“The past year has been full of anticipation,” Peggy Elliott, the organization’s executive director, said in a news release. “It’s very exciting. And it wouldn’t be possible without the overwhelming support of volunteers, donors and the entire Ronald McDonald House Community. We have so much to be grateful for.”
The addition, which increases the number of rooms from 42 to 70, will also include a small indoor motor space, indoor and outdoor play areas, and underground parking. The renovation project is being led by Knutson Construction, Egan Company, and Harris Company.
The organization says the expansion — fueled by a $16.5 million capital campaign — will help address a growing demand for its services. In recent years, the Rochester house, which provides accommodations and support services to families seeking medical care for their children, has turned away thousands of families due to space limitations.
