  • Rochester Public Schools​ are closed Monday through Wednesday (updated from original post).

  • Many other local entities — from banks to universities to city buildings like the library — will be closed on Wednesday.

  • The Rochester Salvation Army Winter Warming Shelter, 20 1st Avenue NE, will remain open 24/7 through Thursday.

  • Rochester Public Transit is offering free bus rides through Thursday for anyone needing to escape the cold.

  • Notices of "No Parking" are going up downtown. City crews will be removing snow on Monday night into Tuesday morning and again on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

  • The worst is yet to come. According to the US National Weather Service La Crosse Wisconsin, "extremely cold arctic air will begin to spread across the area Tuesday and then remain into Thursday." A Wind Chill Warning is in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday morning. Wind chills of -40 to -60 are expected at times. Make sure to limit your time outside.
