Med City Marathon moved to September
Organizers of the Med City Marathon are postponing this year’s event until September due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
The two-day event had been scheduled for May 23 and 24.
“Unfortunately, due to rapid changes in the situation and compounding uncertainty, we have made the tough choice to postpone this year’s event to best support the health of our community,” race organizer Mark Bongers wrote in a letter to runners this week.
Bongers said the decision to reschedule the 25th annual event “was not taken lightly,” and was made after consulting with state and local groups.
“We have been in the racing business for the past 20 years and have never seen anything like this,” said Bongers. “We are all traversing this new terrain together. Although it may be scary or nerve wracking, we want you to stay committed. Stay committed to the training. Stay committed to being healthy. Stay committed to getting outside and exercising.”
Running events will now be held on September 4 and 5.
