Had people over for the holiday? Here is what Public Health recommends you do now
Olmsted County Public Health is recommending that residents who gathered with others outside of their immediate households over Thanksgiving weekend limit their time around others and, if possible, stay home and isolated for 14 days after the last non-household contact.
The advisory comes as Olmsted County continues to see high levels of Covid-19 transmission in the community. Despite a slight drop in the past couple of weeks, the seven-day rolling average stands at 96 new cases per day — three times what it was one month ago.
Officials are also concerned the holiday break could lead to another surge in cases and hospitalizations two to three weeks from now.
“Holiday gatherings pose concerns for transmission of COVID-19 based on the current volume of transmission locally, because infected people might not have any symptoms but could spread the virus to others, and because small groups of friends and family have led to recent transmission in Olmsted County,” said Public Health Director Graham Briggs. “Staying close to home for the next 14 days, just in case you were exposed unknowingly, will help to contain the virus and not allow it to continue moving through our community.”
Individuals who develop symptoms consistent with Covid-19 after spending significant time with others should call a nurse triage line to get tested:
