DMC adds new economic development director

DMC adds new economic development director

Destination Medical Center has a new head of economic development.

Michael Flynn, formerly the chief operating officer of the Economic Development Corporation of Utah, has been named DMC’s new senior director of economic development, the DMC EDA announced Thursday.

Flynn’s role will be to “lead DMC’s business attraction and recruitment strategies and direct marketing strategies to attract new business to Rochester,” according to the news release.

“Our goal was to find an experienced person to advance the DMC initiative in the development community and attract new investors to Rochester,” said Dr. Clark Otley, president of DMC EDA Board and chief medical officer of the Mayo Clinic Platform. “Michael’s impressive background in economic development management and marketing will serve DMC well.”

Flynn will report to Patrick Seeb, who held a similar position before taking over as executive director of the DMC EDA in early 2021.

During the first five years of the initiative, $963 million in private funding was invested in the district, along with $98 million in public investment. Today, however, DMC faces a new set of challenges as the downtown economy looks to recover from the effects of the pandemic.

Flynn is set to begin taking up that task on Oct. 11.

Editor’s note: There is another Michael Flynn out there. This isn’t him.
