Cameo restaurant to close at the end of the month
After four years of business, Cameo restaurant announced Wednesday that it will be closing its doors at the end of the month.
Its final day of service will be this Saturday.
“We want to thank everyone who has supported us these past 4 years as well as our immensely talented, fantastic staff who has helped us realize our dream of opening our own restaurant,” owners Zach and Danika Ohly wrote on Facebook. “While we are saddened to write this, we are nothing but thankful and hopeful for the future.”
Cameo opened in 2018 as part of the Castle Community project. The initial concept had the restaurant anchoring the bottom level of the building, with artist studios, a coffee shop, and a bookstore on the second floor.
That concept, however, folded during the pandemic — leaving Cameo as the only original tenant of the building. Earlier this year, the restaurant filed a lawsuit alleging that the Castle ownership group failed to deliver on the original vision for the project outlined in the lease. The Castle group has since defaulted on its agreement with the city for use of the building.
Still, in a statement, Castle co-owner Scott Hoss said the ownership group was surprised by Cameo’s announcement to leave the building.
“Castle ownership is working to make sure all scheduled events are honored,” said Hoss. “In addition, the Castle is working to find tenants and partners that will allow us to fulfill the initial mission of the project.”
Moving forward, the Ohlys said they are exploring new opportunities for their Early Bird Hospitality Group, which also includes Cafe Relish and Ziggys ghost kitchen, both of which will remain open.
