On the record: Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson
There's a new sheriff in town.
Kevin Torgerson was sworn as the next Olmsted County sheriff Tuesday morning. He replaces Dave Mueller, whose four years as sheriff will be remembered for a number of controversial initiatives that led to a loss of support among his deputies and staff.
Torgerson has been with department for nearly 30 years, most recently serving as the department's captain and director of homeland security and emergency management. He takes over the sheriff's office just as the region prepares for unprecedented growth under the Destination Medical Center initiative.
He recently sat down with The Med City Beat to share his thoughts on a number of issues, including the recent events in Ferguson, Missouri and New York City.
