Longfellow Elementary recognized for its success with the iPad program
Longfellow Elementary School has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished Program for its successful implementation of iPads into every classroom.
The school was one of 300 schools across the world to receive the honor this year, according to Rochester Public Schools. The designation is reserved for schools that meet criteria for innovation, leadership and academic excellence.
“The passion from our staff, and the belief in all of our students, drives our programming at Longfellow,” said Principal Kris Davidson. “We are community and relationship focused. Technology is a large focus at Longfellow, but our success comes from our leadership, innovation, and relationship with our families.”
As an Apple Distinguished Program, Longfellow will work the company to develop a story about the school, in the form of an iBook, that will be shared with educators from all over the world.
Additionally, Longfellow will be able to showcase the school and the projects and activities occurring within the school to many districts in the region. The district will also have access to Apple educators that provide professional development.
The one-to-one tablet program began in spring 2012 at Longfellow and has since expanded to more than a half dozen other schools in the district.
