Rochester Public Library's Bookmobile returns to the road following fire
(THE MED CITY BEAT) - The Rochester Public Library's Bookmobile is back on the road this week.
The converted RV was taken in for repairs last week after a fire damaged part of its exterior. It returned to its normal schedule on Tuesday.
"We are very excited to announce that the Bookmobile has been repaired much sooner than anticipated," the library said Tuesday on Facebook. "Thank you for your patience as we worked through this situation."
The primary bookmobile mechanical repairs are completed, but there are still some preventative and cosmetic repairs that will need to be done, according the library's website. The work won't, however, disrupt the bookmobile's schedule.
No books were damaged in the fire. Repairs are estimated to be in the $10,000 range, down from the fire department's first estimate of $50,000.
The fire was started by an electrical failure, the library said last week.
The current bookmobile has been in service since September 2012. It regularly carries more than 4,500 items, including adult and children's books, audiobooks, magazines and DVDs.
