Here are the 7 places to see the red ball in Rochester next month
(THE MED CITY BEAT) - We now know the seven locations where a giant red ball will be placed early next month in downtown Rochester.
In cause you missed March's story, Rochester is one of five cities across the world that will host the Red Ball Project this summer. The 15-foot-wide, 250-pound ball will be placed at various sites in the downtown area from June 6-12.
The Rochester Downtown Alliance announced the locations on Monday. The artist behind the project, Kurt Perschke, chose the sites during a trip to Rochester last fall.
- June 6: Rochester Art Center
- June 7: The pedestrian bridge to Government Center
- June 8: Mayo Clinic's Plummer Building
- June 9: Peace Plaza near the Kahler Grand Hotel
- June 10: 600 Block of 6th Avenue NW
- June 11: Historic 3rd Street during Thursdays on First & 3rd
- June 12: Mayo Building, Annenburg Plaza
So why a red ball? Here's an explanation from Perschke:
The magnetic, playful, and charismatic nature of RedBall allows the work to access the imagination embedded in all of us. On the surface, the experience seems to be about the ball itself as an object, but the true power of the project is what it can create for those who experience it. It opens a doorway to imagine what if?
In addition to Rochester, the red ball will also travel to Belgium, France and Toledo, Ohio this year. Since 2001, Perschke has held the exhibit in about two dozen cities, including Chicago, Toronto, Paris, Abu Dhabi and Sydney.
