Magazine compares Rochester's DMC plans to SimCity video game
(THE MED CITY BEAT) - New York-based Fast Company refers to Rochester's Destination Medical Center plans as a "real-life version of SimCity" in an in-depth article published to the magazine's website on Tuesday.
For the report, the magazine spoke to Lisa Clarke, the DMC Economic Development Agency's first executive director, and John Kruesel, a local auctioneer and small business owner.
While the report repeats some of the bullet points already familiar to locals, it dives deep into the city's potential for capturing a larger stake in the growing medical tourism sector.

The magazine also examines the role foreign investors are playing in many of the big downtown projects. Here's an excerpt:
In Rochester, these foreign investments are largely greeted with shrugs. The city is used to dealing with global markets thanks to the Mayo Clinic, and the fact that overseas purchasers are interested in local properties is seen more as a sign of a healthy economy than anything else.
Editor's note: The report cites a "contentious city council meeting this past March." While there were moments of frustration expressed by residents during the public comment period, most discussion was positive and the development plan passed unanimously.
