#SocialHEAT: Warm temps expected for this week's SocialICE event

Organizers of SocialICE say plans are still moving forward for this week's event despite the unseasonably warm temperatures in the forecast.

"Minnesotans love talking about weather, so this week is especially interesting," said Jenna Bowman, executive director of the Rochester Downtown Alliance, via email Monday morning. "We are excited about SocialICE and, regardless of weather, encourage everyone to come out to enjoy the event."

Temperatures could climb above 50 degrees on Thursday, the first day of SocialICE. Highs in the upper 40s to low 50s are expected through Saturday, with overnight lows staying above the freezing mark.

However, the forecast didn't stop ice sculptors from beginning work Monday morning. This year's event will feature seven ice bars, as well as an ice garden with displays from a number of local businesses and organizations.

SocialICE, which started in 2009 with just one ice bar, has quickly become one of Rochester's signature winter events. More than 46,000 people attended the three-day event last year.
